Today, our class was taught by Chuck Evans. Dean is still suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Although he was at Sunday School, he was still visibly struggling with the illness.
The key point that Chuck wanted to drive home today through illustrations derived from his own life experience is that one is never too old to be used of God through a yielded life. Chuck is in his forties and he is to go on deputation for his San Paolo, Brazil mission. Through a circuitous series of events starting with trying to elope at age 18 with a 15 year old girl who later became his wife, he went on to finish a degree in engineering, then law, became a practicing attorney and through the placement by God of key people and circumstances - finally yielded to the call and went on to study at Bob Jones University in preparation for mission work. He recently completed his degree at BJU.
Apart from his own life example, Chuck also cited the example of Paul in Acts 7. Paul started as a persecutor of Christians, sometimes to the point of death (as in the stoning of Stephen) and after his conversion wrote 13 books in the New Testament. This is in addition to his missionary journeys which had been instrumental in establishing Christ's church among the Gentile people. Paul was well along in age and started his missionary journey a number of years after his conversion on the road to Damascus.
